Graduate Faculty Status

Graduate Faculty Status is a designation for faculty who are involved in graduate education for teaching, research, clinical care, or creative activity. Faculty apply for Graduate Faculty status within their unit and requirements are described in each unit’s Code. Typically, the Chair of the Unit Personnel Committee or the Graduate Program Director submits graduate faculty status requests to the Graduate School on behalf of its faculty.

Complete regulations are found in the Entire Faculty Manual (PDF) and Graduate School Organization (PDF).

The current list of Graduate Faculty is found via BIC report: Graduate Faculty Report

Faculty or staff who do not have BIC access can request access to this report by contacting Plummer Nye, Academic Technology Analyst, Graduate School at nyep@ecu.edu.

Questions about Graduate Faculty status can be directed to Dr. Michelle Eble, Faculty Fellow, Graduate School at eblem@ecu.edu.

Thesis and Dissertation Committee Requirements for Graduate Faculty Status

A thesis or dissertation committee must have at least 3 faculty with full or associate graduate status in its membership. Additional members, including external to ECU, are allowable in addition to the three required members.  An explanation can be found on the Thesis-Dissertation Preparation LibGuide.

The process for having an external member on a thesis or dissertation committee is outlined in the Faculty Manual Part 2, section IV.
