James L. Coker, Ed.D.

Dr. Coker (aka Dr. J) joined East Carolina University in 2013, working for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. He joined the Graduate School in 2022 as the Assistant Dean of Graduate Admissions and Enrollment Management. In his current role, he oversees prospective student recruitment process, application processing, and coordinating with graduate program directors.

Dr. J received his Ed.D in educational leadership from East Carolina University and his M.S. and B.A from Shenandoah University. His academic interests include student sense of belonging and organizational leadership within higher education.

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his partner Dr. Nikki Caswell and their two kids – Makenzie and James. He also loves riding his motorcycle and refereeing high school football in his spare time.
